Chinese style Salt And Pepper Chips

To celebrate the Chinese new year i was inspired to make one of my takeaway favorites  salt and pepper chips. This is an easy recipe that shouldn’t take long and can be whipped up in less than 30 minutes serving around 2/3 people.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp Chinese five spice seasoning
  • 2 tsp of sea/ rock salt (crushed)
  • ½ a red chilli ½ a green chili
  • 450g of oven chips/french fries
  • ½ tsp of sugar
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 tbs of oil-to fry

Method:

  1. Take the 450g of oven chips and bake in the oven on the heat and for the length of time required as told by the supplier
  2. Chop and dice the chili’s and onion into small square cubes/ rectangles
  3. Heat up the oil on a medium heat for 2 minutes
  4. Once the oil is hot, add the diced chili’s and onion to the pan and fry until golden
  5. When the onions have turned golden add the sugar and stir for 10 seconds
  6.  Then tip in the Chinese five spice and crushed sea salt
  7. Finally add the chips from the oven and mix together with the fried chili’s and onions and serve
